When Lew Lancaster left UWest, it was clear I had to move on.  I started applying and came in second 6 times, which was encouraging but not rewarding in the least.  Then, in the nick of time, the job I really wanted came open in the place Joan and I both wanted to be.  San Francisco.  I competed and came in first at the right time.  My contract with UWest expired on December 31, 2006.  On January 2, 2007, I started as the CE Director at Alliant. Maia had been here a few years already with Chris and she found us a nice little starter apartment we might never leave.  We love renting instead of owning.  We love having a small place.  We love being out on the edge where the parking is easy.   But what is most incomparable about where we live is the Pacific Ocean right out our bedroom window looking better than any large screen TV could ever hope. I sure thought I wanted to come to San Francisco back in 1967 for the Summer of Love.  When my parents made that pilgrimage difficult, I knuckled under and had my own Summer of Acting Like a Total Jerk instead.  It took four decades to work off that karma and finally get me here.  It was worth it.
